    Abstract

    Nurhalimah Umiyati. 2009. SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF COBALT(II) COMPLEX WITH PYRAZINAMIDE. Thesis.Department of Chemistry. Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty. Sebelas Maret University. The purposes of this research are to know the synthesis, formulaand characteristic of complex of cobalt(II) with pyrazinamide. Complex of cobalt(II) with pirazinamide (pza) has been synthesized in 1 : 3 mole ratio of metal to ligan in methanol. The forming of complex was indicated by the shifting of maximum wavelength to the shorter wavelength than metal ion. The formula of complex which is predicted from analysis of % Co in the complex by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) was [Co(pza)3(NO3)2.4H2O]. Charge ratio of cation and anion of the complex measured by conductivitymeter correspond to 2 : 1 metal to ligan. It means that NO3 -is not coordinated to thecenter ion. The thermal analysis determined by Differential Thermal Analyzer (DTA) was indicated that Co(II)-pyrazinamide complex contains four water molecules. Thus possibility formula of the complex was [Co(pza)3(NO3)2.4H2O]. Infra red spectra showeda shift of N-H and C=O group absorption and indicatedthat these functional groups coordinated to the Co 2+ center ion bidentately. Magnetic susceptibility measurement showed that this complex was paramagnetic with µeff 4.92± 0.01 BM. The UV-Vis spectra showedone absorption band at 504 nm (19841.26 cm -1 ). This peak indicated that the complex wasoctahedral structure with transition 4 T1g (F) → 4 T1g (P). The estimate value of 10 Dq (Δo) for Co(pza)3(NO3)2.4H2O is 237.397 kJ.mol -1 .
