    Abstract

    Sudaryanti, S2302030, VOTER’S BEHAVIOUR WITHIN THE PATRON OF INTERPERSONAL AND MASS COMMUNICATION USAGE IN THE 2005 LOCAL MAYOR ELECTION AT SURAKARTA (A descriptive study about civil servant behaviour within the patron of interpersonal and mass communication usage in the 2005 local mayor election at Surakarta ), Thesis, Post Graduate Program, Sebelas Maret University, 2008. This research tries to describe the voter’s behaviour (civil servants behaviour of Surakarta municipality) within the patron of interpersonal and mass communication usage in the 2005 local mayor elections at Surakarta. The research question is how the civil servants of Surakarta municipality behaviour within the patron of interpersonal and mass communication usage in the 2005 local mayor election at Surakarta ?. Theories developed in this research is devined from voting behaviour on the basis of Afan Gaffar oppion that quoted by Muhammad Asfar. This theory involves three models or approaches in determining, that are: Sociologic, psychologic and rational politic approarch. Besides founsing on rational politic approach, this research is also using mass communication theory; mainly the effect of uses and gratifications model, and interpersonal communication theory. That is information seeking behaviour model. Those theories are combined to get clear description about the voters’ behaviour. Descriptive approach is used in this research and single case is chosen as the strategy. Interview, observation and documentation are chosen as the data collection tool. The data, then, is trianggulated to get verified and validated. The analysis involves three major components that are data reduction, data presestation and conclusion. The research reveals that there is paradign changing that effects voters’ behavior among civil servant. Politic party where the candidate belong, political issues/programs raised by the candidates and candidate manner are the main orientation for the civil servant to vote to. The orientation encourages the voter to use mass media to get more information about the candidate. The voters then is confirmed the information got from the media with friends and/or college.
