    Abstract

    This research aims at finding out: 1) the difference of effect between the question a nd answer method use and the discussion method use on the speaking skills of the students of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen, 2) the effect between the high organizational participation and the low organizational participation on the speaking skills of the students of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen, and 3) the interaction of effect between the question and answer method use and the organizational participation on the speaking skills of the students of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen. This research was conducted at State Islamic Senior Secondary School Kebumen 1 in the odd semester in the academic year of 2009/2010. It used an experimental research method with the factorial design of 2 x 2. Its population was all of the students in Grade XI of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen. The samples of the research consisted of 60 students, and were divided into two groups, namely experimental group and control group. Each group consisted of 30 students. The samples were taken by using a cluster random sampling technique. The instrument used in gathering the data of the research was questionnaire of organizational participation. Its validity and reliability were tested by using the product moment correlation technique, and Spearman Brown’s correlation technique respectively . The results of the analysis are as follows: 1) there is any difference of effect between the question and answer method use and the discussion method use on the speaking skills of the students of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen; 2) there is an effect between the high organizational participation and the low organizational participation on the speaking skills of the students of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen; and 3) there is an interaction of effect between the quest ion and answer method use and the organizational participation on the speaking skills of the students of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen. Based on the results of the analysis, a conclusion is drawn that the question and answer method has a significant effect on the speaking skills of the students of State Islamic Senior Secondary School in Kebumen.
