    Abstract

    The purpose of this classroomaction research are: (1) To know the application of contextual approach can improve the result of students mathematic learning at the third grade students of SDN 1 Simo, (2) To describe the obstacles in applying the contextual approach to improve the mathematic learning result. (3) To explain the solution of the problem faced in applying the contextual approach to improve the result of student’s mathematic learning at the third grade students of SDN 1 Simo. The form of this research is Classroom action research, it consist of two cycles, each cycles consist of four stages, they are, planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data collection is using observation and test. Data analysis technique using interactive model analysis which consists of three analytic components, they are: data reduction, data explanation, and taking the conclusion or verification. From the research it can be concluded that: (1) the application of contextual approach can improve the mathematic learning result on the third grade students at SDN 1 Simo, it is shown by: The third grade student which consist of 36 students shown the improvement of learning result compared to the result before the research is increase from 38,92 % succeed student, after the research increase to 100% succeed students. (2) There are some obstacles in obstacles in applying the contextual approach to improve the mathematic learning result such as: the Teacher can not create attractive learning situation (less student response), less variety of student activity, and the low number of student succeeded in learning at the third grade of SDN I Simo. To handle those problems there are several ways such as: The teacher should be smart in applying the contextual approach: (1) analyze the concept and base competent which should be learnt by the student, (2) understand student’s experience and life background (3) analyze the school environment and students environment to link with the concept and competence which will be studied in contextual learning (4) design the teaching activities by linking the theory learnt and students experience in their environment. (5) in teaching process, always support the student to link the lesson the have learn to their knowledge or experience. (6) Make the assessment to student’s understanding, the resultof the assessment used as source of reflection to teaching design and application.
