    Abstract

    Yovan Indra Bayu Prakosa, G0007174, 2010. The Effect of Birth Weight Infants to Age of Onset of First Febrile Seizure in Childhood. Faculty of Medicine, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine whether there is any effect of birth weight infants to age of onset of first febrile seizure in childhood. Methods:This research is an observational analytic with case control approach. The study was conducted in July –October 2010 at the Polyclinic of Child Health Department, Dr. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique. This research is getting 52 people for samples of febrile seizure, consists of 26 samples from case subject (low birth weight) and 26 samples from control subject (normal birth weight). Research instruments were used data on medical records and the questionnaires that have been validated. The data were analyzed with Independent t-Testwith the program Statistical Products and Service Solutions (SPSS) for Windows, release 16.0. perpustakaan.uns.ac.id digilib.uns.ac.id commit to user Results: In the case subject, is founded the average age of first febrile seizure was 10,85 months (the minimum age 2 months, maximum age 27 months, with the highest frequency of 10-15 months). In the control subject, is founded the average age was 25,19 months (the minimum age 11 months, the maximum age 60 months, with the highest frequency of 10-20 months). The mean birth weight in case subjects was 2278.85 grams (the smallest 1800 grams, the heaviest 2450 grams). In the control subjects, the mean was 3167.31 grams (the smallest 2750 grams, the heaviest 4100 grams). The results of independent t-test statistics obtained p=0.000, which means that there is a significant effect of birth weight infants to age of onset of first febrile seizure in childhood. Conclusions: Data show that there is a significant effect of birth weight infants to age of onset of first febrile seizure in childhood
