    Abstract

    The purposes of this research are: (1) to detect manipulation of real activities that concentrate on the cash flow from operations (CFO), production costs, and discretionary expenses and (2) to examines the influence of real earnings management through manipulation of real activities for dividend payout ratio. This study based on the previous study by Gunny (2005), Roychowdhury (2006), and Tsang (2007). This research is focused on manufacturing companies listed in Indonesian Stock Market for periode 2006-2008. This research data are collected from ICMD (Indonesian Stock Market Directory) and/or annual report which published by IDX (www.idx.co.id) and also “pojok Bursa Efek Indonesia” (Indonesian Stock Exchange corner) Economic Faculty UNS. Purposive sampling method is used to collecting data and 129 observations are collected. Ordinary Least Square regression model employs to examine the influence of real earnings management through manipulation of real activities for dividend payout ratio. The result of this research shows that companies are tended to do manipulation of real activities through cash flow from operations. This results support the hypothesis previous research such as Roychowdhury (2006), Oktorina (2008) and Sahabu (2009). Furthermore, the result also shows that companies are tended to do manipulation of real activities through production cost and discretionary expense. These result support Roychowdhury (2006), Sari (2008), and Andayani (2008). Afterwards, the result also shows that there is to be significant and positive correlation between companies who do the real activities manipulation with the dividend payout ratio. This results support the hypothesis previous research Tsang (2007). In conclusion, companies do real earnings management by real activities manipulation.
