    Abstract

    This research is aimed at finding out : (1) the effectivity use of group investigation and brainstorming method. (2) The difference in learning achievement among students with high, medium and low activity. (3) Whether the effectiveness of learning method depends on the students learning activitiy and whether there was any learning achievement differences between students with high, medium and low activitiy in each learning method. Samples were taken through a cluster random sampling technique. The population was all of the students in 5 th grade in the academic year of 2009/2010. It was divided into control and experiment groups. This research was quasi experimental. The result of the pre-test showed that the samples were normally distributed, these variances homogenous and have the same initial ability. The hypotheses proposed were tested using a two way analysis of variance with an unequal cell frequency at the significance level of 5%. Prior to that, pre requisite test including normality test and homogeneity test were conducted. The results of the test showed that the samples were normally distributed, and based on the learning methods and category of learning activities, the samples were derived from population with homogeneous variances. Based on the result of the analysis, we can conclude that : (1) the students’ achievement on Mathematics on group investigation was better than on brainstorming. (2) The students with the high learning activities have a better achievement on Mathematics than moderate and low learning activities. Moreover the students with the moderate learning activities have a better achievement on Mathematics than low learning activities. (3.a) the students with the high and low learning activities have the same learning achievement on Mathematics due to group investigation and brainstorming, but the students with the moderate learning activities if due to group investigation have a better learning achievement on Mathematics than those due to brainstorming. (3.b) In the learning with group investigation, the students with the high learning activities have the same learning achievement on Mathematics with moderate learning activities. Moreover the students with the high and moderate learning activities have a better achievement on Mathematics than low learning activities. In the learning with brainstorming, the students with the high learning activities have a better achievement than moderate and low learning activities. Moreover the students with the moderate and low learning activities have the same learning achievement on Mathematics. Key Words: Group Investigation, Brainstorming, The Learning Activities.
