Abstract

This study aims to analysis and to test the effect of stress on work outcomes from this perpective of the role of felt challenge and psychological strain. The respondent of this study are nurses in Rumah Sakit dr. Oen Solo Baru. By develops method Stuctural Equation Model, this study found that : (1) challenge and hindrance related stress are distinct factors. (2) hindrance related stress relates negatively while challenge related stress relates positively with organizational loyality. (3) hindrance related stress relates positively while challenge related stress relates negatively with work withdrawal. (4) hindrance related stress relates positively while challenge related stress relates negatively with job search and intention to quit. (5) hindrance and challenge related stress relate positively with psychological strain. (6) felt challenge mediates the relation of challenge related stress to job search, intention to quit, work withdrawal behavior and loyality.
