    Abstract

The purpose of this research was to reveal: (1) influential differences between drilling method and games approaches on beginner tennis players’ groundstrokes, (2) influential differences high and low coordination on beginning tennis players’ groundstrokes, and (3) interaction between teaching methods and coordination on beginning tennis players’ groundstrokes. This research employed experimental methods using factorial 2 x 2 designs. Forty (40) students were involved determined by purposive random sampling. The dependent variable of two factors; (1) manipulative variable involving drilling methods and games approaches, and (2) attributive variable involving sample groups which had high and low coordination. Independent variable was groundstrokes performance in tennis. The collected data were (1) groundstrokes performance data and (2) eye- arm coordination data. The statistical analyses employed Analysis Variances (ANAVA) at significance level a:0,05 and continued using Tukkey’s test. The result showed that (1) there has been no influential difference between drilling methods and games approach methods on beginning tennis players’ groundstrokes skill, F0= 0,094 < Ft 0,05= 4,08; (2) there has been influential difference between sample groups having high and low coordination on beginning tennis players’ groundstrokes skill F0= 67,354 Ft 0,05= 4,08; (3) there has been interaction between teaching methods and coordination on beginning tennis players’ groundstrokes skill F0= 10,030 > Ft 0,05= 4,08; (3.a) groundstrokes ability of sample groups having high coordination that have been given games approach had a better influence than those using drilling methods, qo= 5,1 > qt= 3,9698; (3.b) groundstrokes skill of sample groups having low coordination that have been given drilling methods had a better influence than those having games approaches, qo= 4,2 > qt 0,05= 3,9698.
