    Abstract

    ARDY DENTA UTAMA, NIM: I0305016. Designing Car Parking System Using RFId technology in Sebelas MaretUniversity. Thesis. Surakarta: Industrial Engineering, Engineering Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, January 2010. One of the public facilities that still using conventional method of parking system is the front and back gate of Sebelas MaretUniversity (UNS) Surakarta. The current recording and checking system is still using manual ticketing method, by writing the police numbers on the tickets. This system has several weaknesses that are: the transaction data is not recorded; lack of security; uncomfortable for the user; and recording tickets every day that cause inefficient in terms of time, effort and cost. UNSparking system do not have a standard procedure in handling of each event. The initial studies noted that more than 80% users stated that theUNSparking system in not currently meet the needs andexpectations of a good parking system. There are several alternative technologies that can overcome the weaknesses and meet the user's needs. The alternative Technologies are: printed tickets, stickers, and smart cards such as barcode and Radio Frequency Identification (RFId). RFId technology chosen because it has several advantages and able to overcome the weaknesses thatthe other parking systems have. Research steps starts from analyzing the current parking system. The objective is to identify the value-added and non value-added process. Business Process Improvement (BPI)step is based on the identification of the previous process. The next step is to implement and test thesystem. This step is carried out by generating the information needs for user and the decision maker that will be displayed on the new parking system application program. The application program is integrated with RFIddevices. The steps of designing the application program include: software design, database design, interface design, program verification and validation system. The result of this research is a design of new business process system of car parking system in UNS. The improvement of the business process is to integrate server-client parking system withRFIddevices. This research is also creating an application program that can be integrated with Radio Frequency Identification technology (RFId).Application Program is created by using Borland Delphi 7 which is connected to the MySQLdatabase. Benefit-cost ratio analysis indicates that the proposed system investment is feasible, because the benefit is greater than the costs.
