    Abstract

    ABSTRAK ESTI WARDANI, D 1206525, PERAN KOMUNIKASI INTERPERSONAL DALAM PARENTS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (PTA) UNTUK MEMBANGUN HUBUNGAN HARMONIS, MENANAMKAN KEPERCAYAAN DAN MENCEGAH KONFLIK DI FOCUS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL SOLO, Skripsi, Jurusan Ilmu Komunikasi, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, 2011. Parents Teachers Associations (PTA) dibentuk dengan tujuan untuk kemajuan pendidikan murid-murid Focus Independent School. Peran dan fungsi PTA yakni pertama, sebagai supporter, membantu kegiatan sekolah di luar program-program akademis sekolah. Kedua, sebagai aspirator, memberi masukan-masukan sehubungan dengan program-program yang dilakukan oleh sekolah. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Parents Teachers Associations (PTA) Focus Independent School yang berlokasi di Jl. K.S Tubun No 27, Manahan Solo. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan strategi studi kasus tunggal yaitu peran komunikasi interpersonal dalam PTA untuk membangun hubungan harmonis, menanamkan kepercayaan dan mencegah konflik. Sampel diambil dari pengelola PTA yaitu manager, guru, Public Relations Officer (PRO) dan anggota PTA yaitu orangtua murid. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi dan studi pustaka. Validitas data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan triangulasi sumber. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model analisis interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Adanya peran komunikasi interpersonal yang dilakukan oleh pengurus PTA selaku komunikator dalam upayanya membangun hubungan harmonis dengan orangtua murid melalui kegiatan penyampaian informasi maupun kebijakan sekolah, baik yang bersifat akademis maupun non akademis yang diselenggarakan secara rutin/berkala maupun insidental. Selain itu, pengurus PTA juga merencanakan agenda yang melibatkan partisipasi aktif orangtua murid sebagai komite berbagai kegiatan perayaan sekolah, maupun penyelenggaraan kegiatan sosial, seperti menyalurkan sumbangan ke beberapa panti asuhan di Surakarta maupun memberikan bantuan kemanusiaan kepada korban banjir yang sempat melanda Kota Surakarta beberapa waktu lalu. (2) Upaya orangtua murid selaku komunikan dalam berkomunikasi dengan pihak sekolah terlihat dari adanya dialog langsung (face to face) dengan pihak sekolah, penyampaian pesan melalui media internet, maupun diskusi forum PTA untuk memperoleh penjelasan atas informasi maupun kebijakan sekolah. (3) Upaya PTA dalam menyelesaikan konflik antara pihak sekolah dengan orangtua murid adalah dengan melakukan sosialisasi ulang atas informasi maupun kebijakan yang menimbulkan komplain, serta melakukan diskusi/musyawarah dengan orangtua murid untuk membahas secara mendalam melalui forum PTA. ABSTRACT ESTI WARDANI, D 1206525, THE ROLES OF AN INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION IN PARENTS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (PTA) IN ESTABLISHING GOOD RELATION, BUILDING TRUST AND AVOIDING CONFLICT IN FOCUS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL, A Thesis, Communication Department, The Faculty of Communication and Politics, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, 2011. Parents Teachers Association (PTA) was established with the purpose of improving the education quality for the students of Focus Independent School. The first role and function of PTA is as a supporter, PTA involves in school activities other than academic activities. Secondly, PTA functions as aspirator; giving inputs in relation to the programs conducted by school. This research is held in Parents Teachers Associations (PTA) Focus Independent School located in Jl. K.S Tubun No 27, Manahan-Solo. This research is a descriptive-qualitative research. The strategy used in this research is a single case study. It is the role of interpersonal communication in PTA in establishing good relation, building trust and avoiding conflict. The sample is taken from the committee of PTA, they are; the managers, teachers, Public Relations Officer (PRO) and the members of PTA who are the parents. The data collected is taken from an interview, observation and research study. The data validity in the research is using resource triangulation. The data analysis procedure used in this research is an interactive analysis model. The research result shows that (1) There is the role of interpersonal communication done by PTA committee as the communicator in establishing good relation with parents through the sharing of information or school policy both academically and non academically. The activity is held both as a routine or incidentally. Besides, the PTA committee also sets up an opportunity that involves parents to actively participates as the committee in many school events or in many social activities such as in giving donation to some orphanages in Surakarta, giving donation to the victims of flood that happened in Surakarta last time. (2) The effort of parents as the communicant in communicating with school is seen from a direct dialogue with the school, indirect information sharing through the internet or discussion in PTA forum in order to get the clarification of school information and school policy. (3) The effort done by PTA in solving conflict between school and parents is by re-socializing the information or school policy that might raise conflict and by having a discussion with parents in seriously discuss the matter through PTA.
