## Abstract

learning using Problem Solving Method can produce better learning achievement compared with using expository method in the subject matter of the linear equationsystemof two variable (SPLDV), (2) to find out the effect of students’ learning activity level on the mathematics learning achievement in the subject matter of the linear equation system of two variable (SPLDV) , (3) to find out whether there is interaction between the use of learning method and students’ learning activity level on the mathematics learning achievement in the subject matter of the linear equationsystemof two variable (SPLDV). The research uses quasi experimental method. The population of the research is all of the eleventh grade students of SMPN (State JuniorHigh School) 8 Surakarta of school year 2008/2009. The sample used in the research is taken with cluster random sampling technique, consisting of two classes, one class is an experiment class and the other is a control class. The techniques of collecting data used are documentation, questionnaire, and the test. The trial run of instrument is conducted in SMP N (State Junior High School) 12 Surakarta. The equilibrium test with Z-test is conducted as research requirement. The technique of data analysis used is two-line variance analysis through normality test using Liliefors method and homogenity test using Bartlett method as requirement test of data analysis. The result of double comparation to row conclude: (1) student with learning activity on high level have mathematics learning achievement as good as student with learning activity on medium level (Fhitung= 5,8017 < 6,26 = Ftabel ), (2) student with learning activity on high level have different mathematics learning achievement to student with learning activity on lower level (Fhitung= 18,6727 > 6,26 = Ftabel ), (3) ) student with learning activity on medium level have mathematics learning achievement as good as student with learning activity on lower level (Fhitung= 0,5869 < 6,26 = Ftabel).
