    Abstract

    Purpose of this research is to increase reading comprehension ability by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition ( CIRC) method on students in the fifth grade of SDN Sampangan 26 Pasar Kliwon Surakarta. Variable which becomes target of change in this classroom action research is increase of reading comprehension ability, while variable of action which is used in this research is Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition ( CIRC) method. Form of the research is classroom action research in amount of 2 cycles. Every cycle consists of 4 steps, they are: planning, observation action, implementation, and reflection. As the sample is student of class V SD Negeri Sampangan 26 Surakarta which is in amount 37 students. Technique of collecting data used are observation, test, interview, and documentation. Technique of data analyze used in this research is technique of interactive data analyze. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that Indonesia studies trough the CIRC method can increase the reading comprehension ability in the 5th grade of SD Negeri Sampangan 26 Surakarta. It is proved that in initial condition before performing an action, average point of student is 52.70 with percentage classical successes is in amount of 48.64%, in the first cycle class average point is 70.86 with percentage of classical successes 75.67% and in the second cycle, the average point of class increase to 76.51 with percentage of classical successes amounting 81.08%. In addition, the activities of teachers and students were observed in the observation sheet also has increased significantly. This can be proved by the results of which stated that the activities of teachers in the first cycle is 3.40 or adequate and on the second cycle increased to 3.78 or higher. While scores of students on the first cycle is 2.85 or adequate and increased to 3.80 or higher. Based on interviews that have been done, expressed the research otherwise good. It is concluded that the students interested and excited to CIRC method. Thus, it can be proposed a recommendation that Indonesian study by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method can increase student`s reading comprehension ability class V SD Negeri Sampangan 26 Surakarta, in the academic year 2010/2011.
