    Abstract

    The energyrequiredby apersonvariesaccording toage, sex, andphysical activitythroughout theday. One way ofmeasuringphysicalactivityenergyexpendituresby monitoring theheart rate.In obtainingthe dataheartrateneeded heart ratemonitorforeasymeasurement. Inanexperiment, data result from measurement isan importanttobe processedoranalyzed further. In the market, heartratemonitorthatcan measureheart ratewhenobjectsdoing an activities andhavearealtimereadingandstoringmeasurement datahavehard to find. Therefore, thisstudyaimstodesign aheartratemonitorthatcanmeasureheart rateatthe objectdoing an activitywithreal-time readingsandthe measurement resultscan bestoredindatastorage. The first stageinthis studyisto identifythe characteristicsanddesignspecificationscontainedin heart ratemonitorsonthe market. The next stageisdesigning theheartratemonitorconsistingofhardwareandsoftwaredesign. Hardwareon theheartratemonitorhas 5mainblocks, namelyheartrate transducer block, signal conditioningblock, datacounting block, transmitter block,andreceiverblocks. Softwaredesignedas aheartratemonitordisplayandmeasurement result datastorage. Heartratemonitordesignedthenimplementedand testedtomeasureheart rateofanobjects. The tests forheart ratemeasurementwas carried outagainst5objectswith the activity ofwalkingand thenrunning. Activitiesintendedto walkand thenrunto see thelevelof changes inheart ratebased on thelevel ofphysical activity. The result is heart ratemonitorwithRadioFrequency(RF) transmission thathave been tested tomeasureheart rate. Results from measurements of heart rate data are presented in graphical form. The graph of heart rate gives patterns of changes heart rate corresponding to the level of physical activity ofmeasurementobject. Software from this heart rate monitor is only as data storage. Outcome data storage software uses a Ms.Accessformat,so to process measurement data must be converted in Ms.excel format.
