    Abstract

    Papercrete is a concrete building materials were by recycled paper, sand and portland cement. Public usually call “crete” although this is a mortar. The paper which was made is this usually is newspaper then processed to a pulp in order to facilitate the stirring mixture. Papercrete as an alternative environment-friendly lightweight concrete. The study will show how strong the concrete flexural owned with a few variations of nylon. The nylon is expected to increase the flexural strength because the nylon has the toughness, fatigue and abrasion resistence, strength and high durability. Flexural Strength obtained is expected to show the special of papercrete The research is a laboratory experimental methods. In this study used some variations of nylon that is 0%, 0.3%, 0.75%, and 1% of volume. The beam-shaped test object size (150×150×500) mm of three test items for each variation. Flexural strength test performed when the concrete age of 28-day paper using the Loading frame. Data obtained from flexural strength test is the maximum load of crushed concrete at the maximum load is, from these data it can flexural strenght values obtained from each test object. Flexural strength values on the variations of nylon for the volume in a row is a test object with a nylon of 0.3% to 0.2775 N/mm², nylon 0.75% = 0.26194 N/mm², nylon 1% = 0.26861 N/mm² and nylon 0% = 0.25194 N/mm². The use of nylon as an additive proven to increase the flexural strength values of 8-10%, but still far from the standar values of flexural strength mortar or normal concrete. It caused by the nature of paper that easily absorb water causing the need for hydration of cement is reduced, and the distribution of paper in a mixture of uneven because of the paper tend to agglomerate with cement paste while stirring the mixture.
