## Abstract

The objectives of the research are to investigate: (1) whether there is a significant effect of the salary factor on the work satisfaction of the teachers of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta in 2011; (2) whether there is a significant effect of the work environment on the work satisfaction of the teachers of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta in 2011; and (3) whether there is a simultaneously significant effect of the salary factor and the work environment on the work satisfaction of the teachers of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta in 2011. This research used a descriptive quantitative method. Its population was all of the teachers of f State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta in 2011. The samples of the research were 35 teachers, and were taken by using a random sampling technique. The data of the research were gathered through questionnaire supported with the documentation method. The data were analyzed by using a multiple linear regression technique of analysis and partial correlation technique of analysis. The results of the research are as follows: (1) there is a positive and significant effect of the salary factor on the satisfaction of the teachers of of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta in 2011 as indicated by the value of tcount = 2.974 > that of ttable = 1.7; (2) there is a positive and significant effect of the work environment on the work satisfaction of the teachers of of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta in 2011 as shown by the value of tcount = 2.817 > that of ttable = 1.7; and (3) there is a simultaneously positive and significant effect of the salary factor and the work environment on the work satisfaction of the teachers of of State Senior Secondary School 5 of Surakarta in 2011 as pointed out by Fcount = 10.501 > that of Ftable = 3.26. The statistical analysis of the multiple linear line equation is Y = 1.593 + 0.495X1 + 0.284X2. The relative contribution of the salary factor (X1) on the work satisfaction of the teachers (Y) is 52.25%, and the relative contribution of the work environment (X2) on the work satisfaction of the teachers (Y) is 47.75%. The effective contribution of the salary factor of the teachers (X1) towards their work satisfaction (Y) is 20.70%, and the effective contribution of the work environment (X2) on the work satisfaction of the teachers (Y) is 18.92%.
