## Abstract

The main objective of this study is to calculate the heat transfer coefficient for natural convection in the laminar flows area as well as velocity and temperature distributions along the plate for vertical, heated flat- plate. A Fortran Power Station 4.0 was written to obtain the heat transfer coefficient and the velocity and temperature distributions, and the results are ploted using Matlab R13. The plate temperature set at 50 oC and the free stream temperature set at o temperature 30 oC, which is viscous kinematic, v = 16 x 10-6 m2/s and thermal conductivity, k = 26,38 x 10-3 W/m oC. Other properties are gravitational acceleration, g = 9,81 m/s2 and Pr = 0,7, with boundary condition at y = 0 are u = 0, v = 0, T = Tw; at y = ∞ are u = 0 and T = T∞; and at x = 0 are u = 0 and T = T∞. A finite difference methode was used by discritizing the energy, momentum and continuity equations. The program was running properly and showing a good agreement with the classical literature in simulating the velocity and temperature distributions in laminar flows area for natural convection along a vertical, heated flat-plate, and also for the heat transfer convection coefficient. The more distances x from the leading edge of the plate, the less heat transfer convection coefficient obtained. Key words : natural convection, air, vertical-flat-plate, finite difference methode.
