    Abstract

    The goal of the research is to find empiric proof of market reaction to CEO turnoverannouncement. The writer used security return variance to find out the information of CEO turnoverannouncement. As the samples, the research used 123 announcements from 2004-2007. The research considered confounding effect, the origin of successorand the process of turnover. Based on the origin of successor, samples are divided into inside and outside. Based on the process, samples are categorized as routine and non-routine. The findings of the research revealed that market does not react due to the whole CEO turnoverannouncement, routine CEO turnover, non-routine CEO turnover, routine inside CEO turnover, and non-routine outside CEO turnover. The market reacts due to inside CEO turnover, outside CEO turnover, routine outside CEO turnover, and non-routine outside CEO turnover. Based on the findings of the research, it might be concluded that the market reacts especially due to the origin of successor.
