    Abstract

    The research aims are to know: (1) the different effect between using Quantum Learning approach with demonstration method with process skill approach with demonstration method toward the student’s physics cognitive ability, (2) the different effect between giving assignment individual and giving assignment group toward the student’s cognitive ability in physics, (3) the interaction of the effect between using of learning approach and giving assignment toward the students’ cognitive ability in physics. This research uses the experiment method with 2 x 2 factorial design. The population of this research is the 8 th grade students of Junior High School 1 Trucuk in the Academic Year of 2010/2011 consisting of 5 classes, Class 8 th A to 8 th E. The sample is taken with random sampling technique which gets 4 classes: 8 th C and 8 th E as the experiment class and 8 th A and 8 th D as the control class. Techniques of collecting the data used are document and test. The document technique is used to obtain the data on the students’ initial ability. The test technique is used to obtain the data on the students’ cognitive ability in physics in the subject matter of pressure. Technique of analyzing the data employed is a two way anava with different cell, followed by the anava advanced test: scheffe multiple comparison method. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that: (1) there is a different effect between using Quantum Learning approach with demonstration method with process skill approach with demonstration method toward the student’s physics cognitive ability (F a = 17,804 > Ftabel = 3,91 with significance regression of 5%). Based on the multiple comparison method, using Quantum Learning approach is more effective than the process skill approach; (2) there is a different effect between giving assignment individual and giving assignment group toward the student’s cognitive ability in physics (F b = 6,045 > Ftabel = 3.91 with significance regression of 5%) based on multiple comparison method, the students with giving assignment individual have better cognitive competence compared with the students with giving assignment group; (3) there is no interaction of the effect between using of learning approach and giving assignment on the students’ physics cognitive ability (Fab = 0.499 < Ftabel = 3.91 with significance regression of 5%). The implication of the research result is that the physics learning using Quantum Learning approach with demonstration method can help the effectiveness in learning and teaching. Furthermore, giving assignment can help students to comprehend the material along the learning process, so it can influence the student’s cognitive ability in physics better.
