    Abstract

    A simple, energy-efficient, and relativelyquick synthetic procedure for Cannizzaro reaction of benzaldehyde and p-anisaldehydeunder solvent-free conditions based on green chemistry principles has been carried out. Cannizaro reaction of benzaldehyde and p-anisaldehyde using KOH as the base catalyst was done by grinding, stirring, and heating at 100 ºCfor 30 minutes. Cannizzaro reaction of benzaldehyde gave benzoic acid in 98,70% yield and benzyl alcoholin 73,19% yield. Cannizaro reaction of p-anisaldehyde yielded p-anisic acid and p-anisyl alcohol in 92,30% and 84,52%, respectively.
