    Abstract

    The increasing number of population was accord with the growth of stuff food needed. Mean while, that was not balanced with provide the fertile field for improve farm produce. One of efford done, was extend the field by cultivating dryland. The use of upland rice variety which proof of drought resistance, was expected to be able to increase the extending of rice plant field on dryland. The purpose of these study was to study on morphological and physological characters in several varieties of upland rice (Oryza sativa L.) on drought resistance. The study was done in Green House Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty in UNS from Nopember 2007 until February 2008. The experiment compiled with a completely randomized design (CDR) which consist of two factors and each treatment repeated three times. First factor is drought resistance which consisted four level of treatment is clammy rate at 100 granity/% (A1) , 75 granity/% (A2), 50 granity/% (A3), and 25 granity/% (A4). Second factor is the varieties which consisted of four level of treatment Gajah Mungkur (V1), Situ Patenggang (V2), Kalimutu (V3), and Towuti (V4). The result showed that the drought resistance treatment influence to plant’s hight, number of saplings, the leaf area, the dry weight of plant, the dry weight of root, the time of flowering, relative growth rate (RGR), the number of un-hulled rice in each clump, the percentage of empty core rice, and weight of 1.000 grains full seeds. Kinds of varieties treatment influence to number of saplings, the leaf area, the time of flowering, specific leaf area (SLA), the number of un-hulled rice in each clump, the percentage of empty core rice, and weight of 1.000 grains full seeds. There were interaction between drought resistance and kinds of varieties to the leaf area, measurement of root, the time of flowering, the number of un-hulled rice in each clump, and weight of 1.000 grains full seeds.
