    Abstract

H0204007. “The Effectivity Of Various Litter Quality From Tithonia diversifolia, Tephrosia candida, and Kaempferia galanga Toward Inhibition Of Nitrification Potential and Population Of Nitrifyer Bacteria In Alfisols Jumantono”. Nitrification can decreased soil N, causing inefficient of N fertilizer and leaching cation-cation of bassa (K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+). Efforts to control nitrification indirectly can be achieved by ruling litter quality input. Litter quality will influences nitrification because NH4 + of the soil will be soon immobilized by heterotrof microbial during decomposition until there is no substance for nitrification process. The objectives of research were to study the influence of various litter quality input (Tithonia diversifolia, Tephrosia candida, and Kaempferia galanga) toward inhibition of nitrification potential and population of nitrifyer bacteria and to know that time of incubation that most inhibiting nitrification potential and population of nitrifyer bacteria in Alfisols, Jumantono. This research is an experimental was carried out from June to September 2007 in Green House, Laboratory of Soil Chemistry and Fertility, and Soil Biology Agriculture Faculty Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. This study was a functional relationship study by using nondestructive soil sampling and Completed Random Design, consist of two factor, type of litter plants (low quality (Tithonia diversifolia), medium (Kaempferia galanga), and high quality (Tephrosia candida)) and time of incubation (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20). Variables observation are nitrification potential, activity of the nitrifyer microbe and heterotrophic microbe, soil pH, soil temperature, soil moisture, and soil carbon and nitrogen ratio. The data was analyzed with anova 5%, Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT), and Correlation test. The result of this experiment shows that : a). Tithonia diversifolia (low litter quality) decreased nitrification potential 77.35%, Kaempferia galanga litter 62.456%, and Tephrosia candida (high litter quality) 25.05 %; b). the lowest of nitrifyer bacteria population at 20 days 3,7.104 g-1 soil for Tithonia diversifolia, 7,4.104 g-1 soil for Kaempferia galanga, and 12.104 g-1soil forTephrosia candida; c). the most effective of nitrification potential inhibition and nitrifyer bacteria population at 20 days incubation.
