    Abstract

    This thesis is written to: (1) Increase students motivation to learn physics through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). (2) Improve student achievement on physics through Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles, beginning with preparation and implementation phases which consisted of the stages of plan, action, observation, and, evaluation, as well as reflection the subject of the research was the class X.5 students as many 35 as students, of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta in the academic year of 2009/2010, concerning on dynamic electricity the data were collected through observation, interview with the teacher, test, questionnaire, and documentation. The data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. Based on the result of observation during the implementation of the research, it can be concluded that: (1) Cooperative learning based CTL can increase the motivation to learn dynamic electricity among students of class X.5 of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta in the academic year of 2009/2010. This improvement was shown by the analysis on the questionnaire about students motivation and interest during the implementation of the research, which was 25,71% prior to the research becoming 57,14% in cycle I, and 74,29% in cycle II. (2) Cooperative learning based CTL can increase the students achievement on learn dynamic electricity among students of class X.5 of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta in the academic year of 2009/2010. It was shown by the improving number of students passing the minimum score standard of physics, which was 65,71% in cycle I and 74,29% in cycle from the targeted 60% students.
