S.810108039. “The Effectof Picture Media and No-Picture Media on Students’ Learning Achievement in WritingViewed from the Students’ Autonomy (An Experimental Research at State Elementary Schools in Girimarto Subdistrict in 2008 / 2009 Academic Year) ”. Thesis.Education Technology Study Program, Graduate Program, Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, 2009 The objectives of this research are 1) to find out whether there is a different effect of Picture Media and No-picture Media on the second graders’ writing ability, 2) to examine whether there is a different effect between students with high autonomy and those with low autonomy on their writing ability, and 3) to know whether there is a significant interaction between the picture media and students’ autonomy on their writing ability. This research is an experimental research. It was carried out at state elementary schools in Girimarto Subdistrict. The research samples were 70 students selected using cluster random sampling technique. Two types of instrument was used to gather data for the study. A test was administered to collect data about students’ writing ability and a questionnaire was employed to gather data about their learning autonomy. The research data were analyzed using two-path variance analysis with prerequisite analysis test, that is normality test with Liliefors’ test and homogenity test with F test. The significant level of the research was 5%. Based on the research findings it is concluded that 1) there is a different effect of Picture Media and No-picture Media on the second graders’ writing ability (F count > F table or 5.35 > 3.97) which means that the hypothesis was confirmed, 2) there is a different effect between students with high autonomy and those with low autonomy on their writing ability (F count > F table or 13.78 >3.97) which means that the hypothesis was accepted , and 3) there is a significant interaction between the picture media and students’ autonomy on their writing ability (F count > F table or 5.99 > 3.97) which means that the hypothesis was confirmed.Picture media usage is according to increase result of learning writing to students who have high autonomy.
