    Abstract

    Aghniyani Zakiah, S 810906001. 2008. The Effects of Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach With Using Video Compact Disc (VCD) and Student Work Sheet (SWS) to Competence Achievement of History Subject Viewed from The Student’s Cognitive Type. Thesis: Post Graduate Program of Sebelas Maret University in Surakarta. This research purposes to analyze: (1) The effect difference of contextual teaching and learning approach with using VCD and SWS to the students competence achievement of history subject in second semester of second year in Karanganyar State High School, (2) The difference of student’s field independence and field dependence cognitive type to the competence achievement of history subject in second semester of second year in Karanganyar State High School, and (3) The effects interaction of contextual teaching and learning approach with using media and the student’s cognitive type in second semester of second year in Karanganyar State High School. This research uses quantitative method and experimental approach with 2 x 2 factorial design and descriptive analysis data. The population is students in second year in Gondangrejo and Colomadu State High School in Karanganyar regency. The research uses cluster random sampling of 80 students that are divided into 40 students in experiment group and 40 students in control group. The research uses questionnaire and test to collect data. The data analysis uses two paths analysis variant (ANAVA). Before conducting analysis, the research conducts validity test using moment product correlation, conducts reliability test using Alpha Cronbach for questionnaire instruments and Kuder Richardson for test instruments, and finds out the difficulty levels and the differentiators. The results show that all variables are valid and reliable, and also show that the test instruments have difficulty levels and differentiators before hypothesis test is to conduct. The results of hypothesis test show: (1) There are different effects of contextual teaching and learning approach with using VCD and SWS to the competence achievement of history subject. This is proved from F count = 22.523 > F table (a = 0.05) = 3.98. Thus, the use of contextual learning approach with using VCD is proved to give better effects than the use of contextual learning approach with using SWS, (2) There are differences of student’s field independence and field dependence cognitive type to the competence achievement of history subject. This is proved from F count = 31.650 > F table (a = 0.05) = 3.98. Thus, the students who have field independence cognitive type give better effects than those students who have field dependence cognitive type, (3) There are interactions of effects of the contextual learning approach with using media and the student’s cognitive type to the competence achievement of history subject. This is proved with the test results F count = 12.242 > F table (a = 0.05) = 3.98. The Tukey test proves that there are interactions of effects of the contextual 20 learning approach with using media and the student’s cognitive types to the competence achievement of history subject. The research results streng then the theory of contextual learning theory with using learning media. The use of contextual learning approach with using media will help students in correlating materials taught by their teachers to the real situations that are realized with media learning such as VCD and SWS media that contains of material summaries to internalize and develop learning materials. Applying the contextual teaching approach with using media, teachers are hoped to: (1) To stimulate students with internalizing simplified learning materials through learning media, (2) Have highly integrated skills between the learning materials and student’s daily life, (3) Stimulate the student’s motivations with applying contextual learning approach with using media that is related to the subject matters and daily phenomena that are observed by students, (4) Motivate students to creative thinking and be self reliance so that students are able to think scientifically in line with life context and able to find out the concept of history subject learning materials.
