    This study has an aims to know: (1) The Surakarta wayang kulit theatre structure, (2) The philosophical values of the wayang kulit purwa theatre, (3) The form of the wayang kulit theatre that fit with the rules, (4) The modern wayang kulit theatre. This study used qualitative method. The data source used informant, events, or activity, place or spot, documents, literatures, newspaper and magazine that relevance with the study. The data collecting used are interview, field observation, study literature, and internet. The study used purposive sampling in gaining the data from the sample. The technique of analysis used was qualitative with interactive analysis model, the interaction between data collecting with three main components that are data reduction, data serving, and conclusion withdrawal/data verification through cycle process. Checking the validity of data used triangulation. To analyze the data, the researcher used triangulation of the resource data and triangulation method. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion in this study, can concluded that: (1) In the Surakarta wayang kulit theatre, there are standard rules in puppets theatre which it must be followed. The rules are about scene division in pathet, using gendhing for each scene, sulukan, and dhodhogan/keprakan. That rules have been arranged and setled in Serat Tuntunan Pedalangan part I-IV by Nojowirongko Al. Atmotjendono. He is an abdi dalem in Kasunanan Surakarta palace. (2) Wayang kulit theatre contains pictures of ancestor life which can be example for our life, and purpose of education process from it born until die. It can be seen period division performance (pathet) whole night form (type), which it is stared from pathet nem, pathet sanga, and pathet manyura. Besides that, it contains doctrines, advices, example, and purpose of relation between god and human, (3) The form of the wayang kulit theatre that fit with the rules is wayang kulit theatre which hanging on the puppets lakon manuscript. On its development, puppets pakem lakon had change. The puppets pakem lakon that usually use coming from Pustaka Raja Purwa and Serat Pedalangan Ringgit Purwa which its load is a sempalan/carangan stories that coming from Kitab Mahabarata and Ramayana (4) The modern form of wayang kulit theatre is pakeliran padat. Pakeliran padat is a renewal on pakeliran. Pakeliran padat was defined by Humardani. Even though it is different with whole night’s wayang kulit theatre. The pakeliran padat not totally release traditional unsure from whole night’s wayang kulit theatre.
