    Abstract

    The research aim at surveying the correlation between (1) emotional intelligence and the ability of exposition writing, (2) sentence structure mastery and the ability of expositionwriting, (3) emotional intelligenceand sentence structure mastery were joined with the ability of exposition writing. The research was conduced at State Junior High School Jekulo sub district in Kudus regency from January to June2009. The research method is by using with correlation surveytechniques. The research population were the eight grade studentsof State Junior High School Jekulo sub district in Kudus regency. The samples of this research were 80 students who were taken by using simple random sampling. The research instruments were exposition writing ability test, emotional intelligence questioner ability test, and sentence structure ability test.The date analysis techniques that usedin this research were regretand correlation (simple, multiple). This research show that (1) there isa significancepositive correlation between emotional intelligence(ry1 = 0,74 at the level of significance a = 0,05 with n = 80 which rt= 1,66), (2) there is a significance positive correlation between the mastery of sentence structure and the ability of exposition writing(ry2 = 0,79 at the level significance a = 0,05 with n = 80 which rt = 11,38), (3) there is a significance positive correlation between emotional intelligence and the mastery of sentence structure were joinedwith the ability of exposition writing (Ry.12 = 0,837 the level significance a = 0,05 with n = 80 which Ft = 3,12).At the multiple regret coefficient significance test Y on X1X2gave the result t1= 2,37, t2= 5,57. From distribution list t with dk 77 at the level significance a= 0,05 were gotten tt= 1,66 that revealed t1> tt and t2> tt . It means coefficient that interlaced as X1 X2 were significance. The result of this research aboveimplies that emotional intelligence joined with the mastery of sentence structure give big contribution toward the ability exposition writing (70,05 %). It means that writing emotional intelligence and the mastery of sentence structure are as good predictors for the ability of exposition writing. It indicates that teacher who teaches Indonesian must give priority to the mastery of sentence structure aspect to increase the ability of exposition writing than the emotional intelligence aspect.
