    Abstract

    The objective of the study is to find out the difficulties experienced by mathematics teachers of X grade of Senior High School (SMA) in Kupang City in the learning process using 2013 curriculum. It is descriptive qualitative research which conducted in State Senior High School (SMAN) 2 Kupang and State Senior High School (SMAN) 4 Kupang. Subjects are five mathematics teacher of X grade. Purposive sampling is employed as the technique in selecting research subject due to some considerations. For example, the teachers have implemented 2013 curriculum and they have attended training on 2013 curriculum. Data on teachers’ difficulties are obtained through documentation, interviews, and observations on mathematics learning process of X grade in Kupang City. The results reveal that there are several difficulties faced by the teachers in preparation, implementation, and assessment stage. The teachers’ difficulties in preparation stage are difficulty in developing relevant indicators with students’ potentiality and need, difficulty in deciding operational words for indicators, difficulty in deciding materials coverage, difficulty in making rubric of performance assessment, and difficulty in making assessment of attitude. The teachers’ difficulties in implementation stage are difficulty in making students actively involved in the learning process, difficulty in stimulating students to ask questions, difficulty in making students formulate their own knowledge, and difficulty in fostering the courage and language skills of students to communicate results. The teachers’ difficulties in assessment stage are difficulty in assessing students and self-assessment due to the absence of guideline and the objectivity of the assessment is still in doubt, difficulty in performance assessment due to the absence of rubric as a reference.
