    Abstract

K3215019. THE STUDY OF PROBLEM SOLVING LEARNING STRATEGY INCREATING MONOPOLY GAME DESIGN INGRADE XI OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN PROGRAM AT SMKN 9 SURAKARTA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019. Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret University Surakarta, Juni 2019. The purpose of this study is to identify and to describe (1) the process of implementing problem solving learning strategies in creating monopoly game design of grade XI DKV (Visual Communication Design) pogram at SMKN 9 Surakarta in the academic year 2018/2019; (2) the analysis of work visualization in creating monopoly game design of grade of XI DKV pogram at SMKN 9 Surakarta in the academic year 2018/2019; and (3) the obstacles to the implementation of problem solving learning strategy in creating monopoly game design of grade XI DKV pogram at SMKN 9 Surakarta in the academic year 2018/2019. This is a qualitative descriptive research. The data sources used are informants, places and events, documentation, and archives. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation analysis. Then, they were validated through data triangulation and informant review. Finally, they were analyzed under qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study are; (1) the process of problem solving learning strategy implementation in creating monopoly game design of grade XI of DKV program at Surakarta 9 Vocational High School is identified to be inappropriate. In reference to David Johnson, the stages of the procedure for problem solving learning strategy are (a) defining problems, (b) diagnosing problems, (c) formulating alternative problem solving strategy, (d) determining problem solving strategy, and (e) applying problem solving strategy. The students taught using the aforementioned strategy become more active, creative, and independent. They also can find problems and try to find solutions. In addition, designs become more developed and the class management becomes easy, (2) the analysis of monopoly game design work visualization of grade XI of DKV program at SMKN 9 Surakarta in the academic year 2018/2019 includes composition that show the designers’ sensitivity to the elements of form, elements of design, and the arrangement of fine art elements, and (3) there are some obstacles in the implementation of problem solving learning strategy in creating monopoly game design of grade XI of DKV program at SMKN 9 Surakarta in the academic year 2018/2019, including those from the teachers, students, and facilities. Keywords: Problem Solving Strategy, Work Analysis, Visual Communication Design.
