    Abstract

    This study aims to: 1) describe the process of developing the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model with Krulik-Rudnick’s heuristic problem solving strategy to improve students’ mathematical problem solving abilities; 2) produce the RME model with Krulik-Rudnick’s heuristic problem solving strategy on linear program along with valid, effective and practical criteria; 3) produce the RME model with Krulik-Rudnick’s heuristic problem solving strategy that can improve students’ mathematical problem solving abilities better than the learning model commonly used by teachers. Research on the development of the RME model with Krulik-Rudnick’s heuristic problem solving strategy uses ADDIE procedure consisting of five stages, including 1) analysis: preliminary study for goal setting; 2) design: systematic planning; 3) develop: realization of product design; 4) implementation: application of product draft (product trial) and 5) evaluate: revision of product draft. The criteria for determining product quality in this study are valid criteria seen from the validator’s assessment, effective criteria seen through t-test and students’ responses, practical criteria seen from the responses of students, teachers and implementation of models and ampuh criteria seen through the results of t-test. The results of the study concluded that: 1) the models components developed were syntax, consisting of (1) posing real-life problem, (2) organizing students to learn, (3) solving problem, (4) presenting and discussing, (5) developing conceptual and procedural knowledge, (6) applying knowledge and learning tools; 2) the RME model with Krulik-Rudnick’s heuristic problem solving strategy mets valid criteria with a minimum average score of 3.40, the RME model with Krulik-Rudnick’s heuristic problem solving strategy mets the effective criteria namely can improve students’ mathematical problem solving abilities of experimental group significantly and got positive responses of students by 80.28% and the RME model with Krulik-Rudnick’s heuristic problem solving strategy received positive responses from students and teachers and had a high level of implementation of the model with an average of 84.97%; 3) the problem solving ability of the experimental group was significantly higher than without treatment control group.
