    Abstract

    This study aimed: (1) to describe the steps on the implementation of scientific approach using video in improving social science learning; (2) to improve social science learning with the theme of the beauty in diversity in my country through the implementation of scientific approach using video in fourth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Kutosari in Academic Year 2018/2019; and (3) to describe problems and solutions on the implementation of scientific approach using video in fourth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Kutosari in Academic Year 2018/2019. This research is a collaborative classroom action research. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the research were teacher and 43 students of fourth grade of SD Negeri 4 Kutosari. Sources of data were obtained from students, teacher, observer, and document. Techniques of collecting data were test and non-test. Validity of data in this research was analyzed using triangulation and sources. Data were analysed through data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The results of this research indicated that: (1) the steps of the implementation of scientific approach using video included: (a) observing video, (b) questioning based on video, (c) gathering information based on video, (d) analyzing information, and (e) presenting; (2) the implementation of scientific approach using video could improve social science learning with the theme of the beauty of diversity. It was proven by the increase of learning process percentage of social science with minimum completeness criteria of 75 in the first cycle was 65.11%, in the second cycle was 82.55%, and in the third cycle was 96.51%. In addition, the increase of learning outcomes percentage of social science with minimum completeness criteria of 75 in the first cycle was 63.96%, in the second cycle was 83.73%, and in the third cycle was 93.03%; (3) The problems encountered in the learning were: students did not have things to ask, students were not enthusiastic in seeking information, some students were not active in expressing their opinions, students lacked of confidence when presenting and responding to the results of discussions, and teachers’ attention was difficult in reaching all students. The solution to refering the problems include: the teacher provides stimuli and guidance to students so that they ask questions, teachers and students use various sources of books that are available, the teacher assembles the students so they want to argue, the teacher motivates students to be willing to present and responds to the results of discussions from other groups evenly. The conclusion of this research is the implementation of scientific approach using video could improve social science learning with the theme of the beauty of diversity for fourth grade students of SD Negeri 4 Kutosari in Academic Year 2018/2019.
