    Abstract

    Siti Zaenab. The Improvement of Essays Writing Skills through Multiple Writing Strategies in Grade III Students of SD Negeri Sidorejo in Academic Year 2018/2019. Thesis. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta. March 2019. This study aimed: (1) to describe the steps of a guided writing strategy to improve essays writing skills for students; (2) to improve essays writing skills for students through guided writing strategies; and (3) to describe the constraints and solutions for the application of guided writing strategies to improve essay writing skills for third grade students of SD Negeri Sidorejo in Academic Year 2018/2019. This research is a collaborative classroom action research (CAR). The subjects of this study were third grade students of SD Negeri Sidorejo. The data sources of this study were teachers and students. Data collection techniques used test techniques, observation, and interviews. Data validity test used techniques of triangulation and source triangulation. The data analysis technique used quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. The research was carried out for three cycles. The results indicated that: (1) the application of guided writing strategies was carried out by the following steps: (a) preparation, (b) drafting a rough draft, (c) improvement, (d) editing, and (e) publication; (2) the application of guided writing strategies could improve essay writing skills of third grade students at SD Negeri Sidorejo in Academic Year 2018/2019 with the percentage of students completing in the first cycle of 63.95%, in the second cycle increasing to 84.96%, and in cycle III increasing to 95.24%; (3) the constraints found during learning included: (a) lack of participation of all group members in discussions, (b) lack of confidence in students in publishing their essays, and (c) writing of grade III students which was not arranged well. Therefore, the solutions that the teachers can do include (a) when discussing the teacher emphasizes that all group members must participate to get the value, (b) the teacher increases the intensity of training and guidance to students in publishing their essays and provides responses, and (c) the teacher directs and explains the writing of letters and the right word. The conclusion of this study is a guided writing strategy could improve essays writing skills of third grade students of SD Negeri Sidorejo in Academic Year 2018/2019.
