    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Mutiara Anggun Puspitasari. The Application of Scientific Approach with Multimedia to Improve Social Science Learning on the Theme of Heat and and its Displacement in Grade V Students of SD Negeri 1 Kutosari in Academic Year 2018/2019. Thesis, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, March 2019. This study aimed: (1) to describe the steps in applying scientific approach with multimedia to improve social science learning on the theme of heat and its displacement, (2) to improve social science learning on the theme of heat and its displacement, and (3) to describe the constraints and solutions to the application of scientific approaches with multimedia in order to improve social science learning the theme of heat and its displacement. This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were teachers and fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Kutosari, totalling 36 students. Data used were in the form of qualitative and quantitative data. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, documentation and tests. Data validity used technical triangulation and source triangulation. Data analysis included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study indicated that (1) the scientific approach with multimedia to enhance social science learning on the theme of heat and its displacement in Grade V students of SD Negeri 1 Kutosari in Academic Year 2018/2019 was carried out by the following steps: (a) observing multimedia, (b) asking based on multimedia, (c) collecting information from multimedia, (d) reasoning/processing information, (e) communicating; (2) the application of the scientific approach with multimedia could improve social science learning on the theme of heat and its displacement in the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Kutosari as evidenced by an increase in the average percentage of activeness attitudes of 86.9% in the first cycle, 89.7% in the second cycle, and an increase in the average percentage of students’ completeness from 87.03% in the first cycle to 92.53% in the second cycle; (3) the obstacles that occurred included: (a) students had difficulty in making conclusion, (b) the teacher gave less reprimand, (c) the teachers did not motivate students, (d) students’ responses were not appropriate, (e) limited learning time, (f) students’ sentences were not quite right. The solutions provided include: (a) teachers guide students to draw conclusions, (b) teachers give reprimands, (c) teachers motivate students, (d) teachers explain how to respond, (e) teachers give effective timing, and (f) teachers guide students to compose response sentences. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of a scientific approach with multimedia could improve social science learning on the theme of heat and its displacement in the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 1 Kutosari in Academic Year 2018/20019.
