    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Eka Fajriatul Janah. The Implementation of Make A Match Technique With Multimedia in Improving Social Science Learning about the Struggle against Dutch and Japanese Colonialism in Grade V Students of SDN 2 Kedawung in Academic Year 2018/2019. Thesis, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, February 2019. This study aimed: (1) to describe the steps in applying the technique of make a match with multimedia, (2) to improve social science learning about the struggle against Dutch and Japanese colonialism through the technique of make a match with multimedia, (3) to describe the obstacles and solutions to the application of make a match technique with multimedia in improving social science learning for fifth grade students of SDN 2 Kedawung. This research is a collaborative classroom action research (CAR) conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were fifth grade students of SDN 2 Kedawung in Academic Year 2018/2019, totalling 18 students. The data used were in the form of qualitative data, namely the application of make a match technique with multimedia and quantitative data, namely attitude assessment and learning outcomes tests in social science subject. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and tests. Data validity used the techniques and sources of manipulation. Analysis of qualitative and quantitative data included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that: (1) the application of the technique of make a match with multimedia in improving social science learning about the struggle against Dutch and Japanese colonialism was carried out by the following steps: (a) submission material with multimedia, (b) grouping students with multimedia, (c) card distribution, (d) notification, (e) card pair search, (f) presentation with multimedia, (g) confirmation; (2) the application of the technique of make a match with multimedia could improve social science learning about the struggle against Dutch and Japanese colonialism of fifth grade students of SDN 2 Kedawung in Academic Year 2018/2019 as evidenced by the average percentage of assessment of students’ attitudes in the first cycle was 66.68%, in cycle II was 80.56%, and in cycle III was 90.28%. The percentage of students’ learning outcomes completed in the first cycle was 57.36%, in cycle II was 78.68%, and in the third cycle was 91.67%; (3) the obstacles in this study were: (a) there were still some students who have not dared to ask, (b) students are difficult to condition so the class situation becomes noisy. Therefore, the solutions provided are: (a) giving stimuli and motivation to students to be confident to ask questions, (b) condition the class well and giving sanctions in the form of questions in accordance with the learning material. The conclusion of this study is that the application of the technique of making a match with multimedia could improve social studies learning about the struggle against Dutch and Japanese colonialism of fifth grade students of SDN 2 Kedawung in Academic Year 2018/2019.
