    Abstract

    ABTRACT Wisnu Dwi Sejati. K3114056. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ROLE-PLAYING TECHNIQUE TO REDUCE ACADEMIC ANXIETY OF THE FIRST GRADE STUDENTS AT SMAN 1 BANYUDONO. Thesis. Surakarta : Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. January 2019 The background of this study was the first grade students at SMAN 1 Banyudono who were experiencing academic anxiety. Even though the school had tried to solve this academic anxiety problem, the result had not been practically significant. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of role-playing technique to reduce academic anxiety of the first grade students at SMAN 1 Banyudono. This study was a experimental research, with the Nonequivalent Control Grup design with the form of nonequivalent control group design which consisted of experimental and control groups. The research subject for each groups were ten people that had been selected by using Purposive Sampling technique. Besides, the data analysis method was using Mann-Whitney test which had done by using SPSS version 20. Based on the analyzed data, the Mann-Whitney U test is 2,500 with significance of 0,000. The significance number of 0,000 was smaller than 0,05 so that this was resulting different academic anxiety between experimental and control groups after a treatment had given. The difference happened because the treatment for experimental groups was using role-playing technique. In coclusion, the role-playing technique was effective to reduce academic anxiety for the first grade students at SMAN 1 Banyudono. Besides, this study was also expected to be applied by the school counselor as an alternative method to reduce academic anxiety of students. Keyword: role playing, academic anxiety
