    Abstract

    This research is purposed to know about (a) the implementation of superior class in public senior high school 2 of Ngawi viewed from from the aspects of recruitment of participating pupils input, teacher recruitment, the curriculum used, learning medium and learning source, learning­teaching activity process and the evaluation of learning process and result; (b) the perception of teacher, student, and society toward the superior class; (c) the obstacles undertaken and the way to handle them; (d) how far the superior class has positive impact in improving the education quality. The research is held in public senior high school 2 of Ngawi in the 2008/2009 period of study. The approach used in this research is qualitative method in the form of naturalistic. The source of data is from three sources: event, informant, and document. The technique of data collection: participant observation, deeper interview and document analysis. The result of data collection is done by observation technique, interview, and document analysis. The sampling technique uses quotation technique. The checking of data validity uses the prolonged participation, perseverance/regularity of observation, triangulation, and the observation of colleague. Then, the result of the research is analyzed using Spradley’s data analysis technique. The research findings: 1) the implementation of superior class in public senior high school 2 of Ngawi viewed from aspects of: recruitment participating pupils input, teacher recruitment, the curriculum used, learning medium and learning source, learning­teaching activity process and the evaluation of learning process and result has fulfilled the requirements and stipulations related to the existing theories so that the implementation of the superior class can work well; 2) the perception of teacher, student, and society toward the superior class is good so that their responses toward the implementation of superior class is positive, thereby it give a big contribution to the implementation of superior class; 3) the obstacles found can be handled by the good management ability from the school side; 4) the implementation of superior class in public Senior High School 2 of Ngawi has positive impact in improving the education quality, it is signed by: a). for two times, Public Senior High School 2 of Ngawi occupy the 2 nd rank of highest mark in national examination in Ngawi Regency area. The mark of superior class students is above the average completeness mark in national examination, and b) 100% of the alumnus of superior class students in the 2005­2006 period of study can enter the favourite University or Vocational High School which is considered as a superior school by the society. The research suggestion, a) the implementation of superior class must be improved so that this implementation can achieve the effective and efficient level, b) the implementation of superior class in public senior high school 2 of Ngawi can be developed to be international school level, c) for the other researchers, it is needed to do a deeper research about the implementation of superior class viewed from the effectiveness and efficiency side of the impelentation.
