    Abstract

    In Indonesia, grammar is one of the essential aspects which have to be learned by the students in learning English. Some students always assume it as one of the difficult subjects because of the differences between Indonesian and English grammar. This problem might come from the absence of media to fulfill the teaching and learning needs of the lecturer and the students. To know the students’ grammar ability or achievement, it is important to conduct the test. The media is needed in conducting the grammar test. Nowadays, technology becomes popular as a media for the test. Therefore, researcher is interested in developing computer-assisted English grammar test software as the solution for the weaknesses of the existing grammar test media. The design of the research is research and development. It is important to find out the quality of existing grammar test media. In order to find out the quality of existing grammar test media, observation, distributing questionnaire, and conducting interview were done by the researcher. It is found that there are several weaknesses related to the existing grammar test media, besides the existing grammar test media does not meet students’ and lecturer’s need. Due to the weaknesses of the existing grammar test media, it is important to provide students and lecturer with grammar test software which can meet their need and assist them while doing the test. The result of this research is developing the product “grammar test software”. After finishing the product, researcher took the product to the experts for experts’ judgment. When the product was considered good by the expert, the researcher took the product to try it out. After series of try out, it shows that the developed product is feasible for lecturer to give the grammar test, feasible for students to do the grammar test, and feasible for students to develop the grammar indicators.
