    Abstract

    This research aimed to analyze and describe: (1) metacognition process and difficulty of students with visual-spatial intelligences during solving open-ended problem in geometry, (2) metacognition process and difficulty of students with logical mathematics intelligences during solving open-ended problem in geometry. This research used qualitative research with case study strategy. The subjects in this research involve 5 students of 11th grade of SMA MTA Surakarta chosen by snowball sampling. Data collection in this research was conducted by interview based on Mathematics Problem-Solving in geometry material. Validity of the data was checked by using criteria of credibility and (triangulation of time and source) dependability. The data was analyzed with Miles and Hubermann steps involve data reduction, data display, and verification. The results of this research showed that: (1) students with visual-spatial intelligences have no difficulty on each metacognition aspects, (2) students with logical mathematics intelligences have difficulty on knowledge aspect on strategy and cognitive tasks. Even though, several researches about metacognition process and metacognition literature recommended the steps to know the characteristics. It is still important to discuss that the difficulties of metacognitive is happened because of several factors, one of which on the characteristics of student’ intelligences. Therefore, it is really important for mathematics educators to consider and pay more attention toward students’ intelligences and metacognition difficulty in designing better mathematics learning.
