    Abstract

    Abstract: The objective of this study and development was to produce Prototype-1 of "Development of Creative Thinking Skills Improvement Guide by James Higgins’ Creative Problem Solving model in Junior High School Students" based on the empirical studies and theoretical studies results that were ready for validity, practicality and effectiveness tests. This research used research and development method (Research and Development), but concretely only up to the third step of the research and development or produced a prototype-1 products. The researcher used the results of the previous study conducted by Guidance and Counseling Students, FKIP UNS batch 2002 regarding to data on the needs and interests of students in all Surakarta residency (Exploration subjects were students, BK teachers, and parents). In addition to the results of the previous study, the researcher also used the data from the field study conducted at three different schools. The results of this research and development were as follows. First, empirical study contain two results of studies that were previous study and field study. The two studies above showed that creative thinking skills were needed and very important for students, furthermore it was necessary to made a guide about improving creative thinking skills. Second, the theoretical study obtained through literature review was show the notion of creative thinking, the factors that influence creative thinking, the characteristics of the creative individuals, forms of creative thinking, understanding of creative problem solving, and steps of creative problem solving. Based on empirical and theoretical studies above, it could be concluded that it was necessary to make a guide about improving creative thinking skills through James Higgins’ creative problem solving model in junior high school students that were ready for validity, practicality and effectiveness tests. The guide consisted of two books, that were (1) Guidebook and (2) Student Worksheets.
