    Abstract

    Aloysius Sutomo: STUDENT TEAMS ACHIEVEMENT DIVISIONS (STAD) AS A TYPE OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING EXPERIMENT TOWARD FUNCTION COMPETENCE BASED ON GRADE VIII OF SMP SURAKARTA STUDENTS LEARNING MOTIVATION YEAR OF STUDY 2008/ 2009. Thesis, Surakarta. Mathematics Education Post Graduate Program of Sebelas Maret Unversity, Surakarta. The purposes of this research are to find out: (i) whether the use of cooperative learning for STAD type is better than conventional learning method on the theme of function to mathematic learning achievement. (ii) to know whether advanced, medium or low students’ motivation in learning mathematic result different mathematic learning accomplishment. (iii) to find out the interaction between learning style and students’ motivation through their mathematic learning accomplishment. This research is a quasi research. The population is grade eight students from 27 junior high schools in Surakarta. The sample selection was taken randomly from grade eight students of SMP 19 Surakarta, SMP 15 Surakarta and SMP 17 Surakarta. Then, using cluster random sampling the class sample was taken by raffling two classes from all classes. Next, two classes were divided into two groups, control group and experiment group. Data-gathering technique uses documentation, questionnaire and test method. Documentation method used their grade seven scores in semester 2 for balance test between control group and experiment group. Questionnaire Instrument is used to find out students’ motivation and test instrument is used to know the mathematics learning achievement on the theme of function. Poll and test were used as trial first in SMP 14 Surakarta. Then the questionnaire was analyzed by looking up the reliability index and internal consistency of each test number. From the result of 30 test numbers by using KR - 20 from Kuder – Richardson, r11=0.93 was acquired and the consistency internal index using Karl Pearson correlation formula, rxy > 0.3 was acquired. The 30 test numbers are reliable and valid according to distinguisher of good and medium and medium difficulty level, therefore all numbers are reasonable to be used. The questionnaire Instrument was analyzed to look for reliability index and internal consistency index of each number. Through the analysis of 40 questionnaire test numbers using alpha formula, r11 = 0.83 was acquired and internal consistency index using Karl Pearson correlation formula, 5 test numbers of the index score is rxy < 0.3 therefore, only 35 test numbers which are suitable to be used. Data-analysis technique uses two ways variant 2 x 3 with different cell method. The normality trial and variant homogeneity trial were applied first before variant analysis. And the result of variant analysis of two ways of different cell, H0A rejected , H0B un rejected H0AB un rejected The conclusion based on the research product are: (i) cooperative learning method for STAD type result better accomplishment compared with conventional method on the function theme,(Fa =5.65 > F 0,05;1;232 = 3.84) (ii) there is a difference achievement of mathematic learning between advanced, medium or low students’ motivation in learning mathematics (Fb = 0.92 < F 0,05;2;6;232 = 3.00) (iii) there is an interaction between learning methodology and learning mathematics motivation (Fab = 2.28 < F 0,05;2;232 = 3.00). Based on double comparison test for each column, we may conclude that there is a difference in mathematics learning achievement among high, medium or low students’ motivation on the theme of function. Medium and low learning motivated students have better result in mathematics accomplishment than high learning motivated students. The conclusions for interaction effect by comparing the average in each cell in the same column, and double comparison test for cell in the same line are: (1) the STAD learning method of medium and low motivated students is not differ from conventional learning methodology. And high motivated students have better learning method with STAD rather than conventional one by reviewing the cell average in the first column. (2) High and medium learning motivated students have equal result in mathematic accomplishment with STAD learning method, and the achievement between medium and low learning motivated students are same, and so between high and low motivated students. In the conventional learning method, students’ achievement with high motivated is equal with medium one, and the medium motivated students have equal accomplishment with low one. Finally the conclusion for conventional learning method according to the average between cell is low learning motivated students are better than high motivated one.
