    Abstract

    The objectives of this research are to investigate the effect of POE learning model with experiment and demonstration methods viewed from prior knowledge and science generic skills (SGS) and their interaction on the students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning results on Environmental Pollution learning material. The population of this research was all of the students in Grade VII of MTs PPMI Assalam Sukoharjo. Cluster random sampling was used to determine its samples. The samples consisted of two classes. Experiment class I (7C) used the POE learning model with experiment method and experiment Class II used the POE learning model with demonstration method. The data of the students’ cognitive results were collected through test, while those of the students’ affective and psychomotor results were collected through observation sheet. Furthermore, the data of the students’ prior knowledge and SGS were collected through test. The proposed hypotheses of the research were analyzed by using the analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results of the research are as follows: The prior knowledge and the science generic skill had an effect on the students’ cognitive results, and there was an interaction of effect of the POE learning model with experiment and demonstration methods, the prior knowledge, and the science generic skills on the students’ cognitive results.
