    Abstract

THE ENHANCEMENTS’ SKILL OF WRITING POETRY BY DWA (DIRECTED WRITING ACTIVITY) STRATEGY OF FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS AT MUNGGUNG 1 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SURAKARTA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2017/2018. Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Universitas Sebelas Maret. May 2018. The purpose of this research was to improve the skill of writing poetry by applied DWA (Direct Writing Activity) Strategy for fifth grade students in SDN Munggung 1 Surakarta on academic year of 2018/2019. The form of this research was a Classroom Action Research which conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages i.e. planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this research included teacher and 33 fifth grade students in SDN Munggung 1 Surakarta. The data collected by interview, observation, test, and documentation techniques. The data validity test were using content validity, triangulation of resource, and triangulation of technique. The result of this research shows the improvement of skill of writing poetry values from pre-action, cycle I until cycle II. The classical completeness level on pre-action was 27,27% or 9 students of 33 student passed the criteria. On first cycle, the classical clompleteness increased into 54,5% in the other words there are 18 students passed the criteria, whereupon on the second cycle, it increased into 84,84% that equal to 28 students. Based on the the result of this research, it can be synthesized that the DWA (Direct Writing Activity) Strategy can improve the writing poetry skill of the fifth grade students at Munggung 1 Elementary School Surakarta in the academic year of 2017/2018.
