    Abstract

    Indonesia has wind energy potential as a power plant of 970 MW and only about 0.003% is used. This energy can be converted by using a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) type wind turbine. This turbine needs to be modified in order to work on low winds. Planning modifications include determining the type of airfoil, pitch angle, and using a diffuser. The pitch angle is a blade mounting angle designed to allow the horizontal wind turbine to have a low cut-speed wind speed. The diffuser is a conical sheath-shaped wind shell that creates a low-pressure area behind the wind turbine, allowing for increased wind speeds. The study was modified by pitch angle and Diffuser addition to the HAWT wind turbine. Turbine blades use NACA 4412 airfoil type and are made of teak wood with the variation of pitch angle 0 °, 2 °, 4 °, 6 °, 8 °, 10 ° and 12 °. Another modification is done with the use of Diffuser and Diffuser Inlet shroud. The study was conducted using an artificial wind in a wind tunnel with wind speed variations of 2 m / s, 2.5 m / s, 3 m / s, 3.5 m / s, 4 m / s, 4.5 m / s and 5 m / s. The results showed the variation of pitch angle to produce maximum power at 4° pitch angle where at wind speed 5 m / s produce 9.71 Watt and rotary speed generator 505.6 Rpm. The addition of a pitch angle of more than 4ᵒ causes deterioration of the output of electrical power and generator turn. Testing of NACA 4412 angle wind turbine 4°with Diffuser Inlet shroud at wind speed 5 m / s produce the highest power output and rotational speed of generator which is 11.83 Watt and 542.4 RPM respectively with the percentage increase 22%. Use of Inlet Shroud Diffuser can also reduce Cut in speed generator of wind turbine. The highest turbine efficiency was produced on the variation of 4 p pitch angle using Inline Shroud Diffuser by 14% with Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) value of 6.8.
