    Abstract

    ABSTRACT Yulia Nur Rafisa. THE APPLICATION OF VISUALIZATION, AUDITORY, AND KINESTHETIC (VAK) IN IMPROVING READING SKILL OF STORY FOR THE FIFTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SD NEGERI 2 BOCOR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2017/2018. Thesis, Teacher Training and Education Faculty.SebelasMaret University of Surakarta. May 2018. The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe the steps on the application of Visualization, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) in improving reading skill of story, (2) to improve reading skill of story through the application of Visualization, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) for the fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Bocor in the academic year of 2017/2018, and (3) to describe problems and solutionson the application of Visualization, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) in improving reading skill of story for the fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Bocor in the academic year of 2017/2018. This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted within three cycles in two meetings. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, training, and reporting the result. Subjects of the research were 20 students of the fifth-grade of SD Negeri 2 Bocor in the academic year of 2017/2018 consisting of 15 boys and 5 girls. Sources of data were derived from teacher and students. Techniques of collecting data were test, observation, and interview. Data collection tool in the form of evaluation, form of observation, and interview guide. Validity of data in this research was analyzed using triangulation of sources and technique. Data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative analysis consisting of data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The results of this research showed that: (1) the steps of Visualization, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK), namely (a)preparation, (b) delivery (c) training, and (d) display the result; 2) the application of Visualization, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) can improve reading skill of story. This is evidenced by the increase in each cycle, in the first cycle of completness the result of the skill of listening to the students’ story reached 47.5%, in the second cycle 82.5%, and in the third cycle 95%, (3) the problems encountered in the learning, namely: the students have not been actively asking questions, students were noisy when training or playing role play, and student were not active during role playing activities. Solutions for these problems are: the teacher motivates students to be brave in asking questions, the teachers give direction to calm down, and the teacher gives apperceptions to the students who are actively playing the role. The conclusions of this research is the aplication of Visualization, Auditory, Kinesthetic (VAK) can improve reading skill of story for the fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Bocor in the academic year of 2017/2018.
