    ABSTRACT Setiawan Yuniar Wijaya. 2007. The Black Ants Colonization (Dolichoderus thoracicus Smith) in the Cocoa Cultivation (Theoborma cacao L.) with the Giving of Alternative Food. Biology Department. Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science. Sebelas Maret University. Surakarta. The black ants (Dolichoderus thoracicus Smith) has functioned as the natural enemies of the fruit absorber pest (Helopeltis antonii) in the cocoa cultivation. Because of useful the black ant colonies in cocoa cultivation area, it is needed to multiply the colonies using atractan. The purposes of this research are to know the black ants colonization and to know the kind of food which suitable for the black ants colonization in the cocoa cultivation. This research was done in the cocoa cultivation of PT Perkebunan Nusantara IX Getas Semarang from July to September 2006. The alternative foods that were given are coconut sugar, milk, and fresh fish head. This research finished during 5 weeks, used Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 4 treatments, and with 5 replications of each treatment. The parameter which observed were the coming time and the amount of the queens ant the workers in the nest, the amount of the eggs, larvas, pupas, and imagos of the black ants every week. The data were analyzed descriptively and using Kruskal-Wallis Test continued DFMC test at 5 % level. The result of this research shows that the type of the colonization in all of treatments is migration. The colonization in all of treatments has been in the reproduction. The alternative feed that is the most suitable for the black ants colonization is the fresh fish head, which the colony has been formed since the first week and has entered the reproductive time in the second week. The fresh fish head also made the development of the black ants in all of stadium (eggs, larvas, pupas, and imagos) faster than any other alternative feed. This is probably caused of protein contain in the fish.
