    Abstract

    Keeping intimacy as one of the characteristics needed for a relationship is difficult in a long distance relationship. The main cause is the lack of Face-to-Face communication (FTF) so that it relies more on Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). This research aims to prove the relationship between the frequency of emoji usage, the communication intensity, the degree of similarity in personality, the degree of idealization, and the degree of communication intimacy in long distance relationship. This is a correlative research using simple random sampling technique to gather research samples. The data were gained by distributing questionnaires to 95 regular undergraduate students in FISIP UNS who was the sample of this research. The result of correlation analysis shows that the relationship between the degree of idealization and the degree of communication intimacy is the most dominant relationship with a correlation coefficient of 0,566. Then, followed by the relationship between the degree of similarity in personality and the degree of communication intimacy with the correlation coefficient of 0,397. Third is the relationship between the frequency of emoji usage and the degree of communication intimacy with the correlation coefficient of 0,281. Last is the relationship between the communication intensity and the degree of communication intimacy with the correlation coefficient of 0,278. These results indicate that there is a significant and positive relationship between the frequency of emoji usage, the communication intensity, the degree of similarity in personality, the degree of idealization, and the degree of communication intimacy.
