    Abstract

    ABSTRACT RATNANIK DWI JAYANTI, D0213076. SELF-IMAGING ON INSTA STORIES (A Qualitative Descriptive Study Of Self-Imaging On Instagram Stories Among Putra-Putri Solo Batch 2015 – 2017) In the era of new media nowaday, there is no wonder of many emerging new media which are utilized to support human life. The emergence of various social media supports communication process easier. One of them is Instagram, an application for selfie-photo lovers which is featured with special features of Insta Stories that has been released in 2016. Insta Stories makes easier for the users to capture moments to share and access by followers who last only 24 hours and then disappear automatically. This phenomenon attracted researchers to conduct study that aims to investigate how the Youths of Putra Putri Solo Batch 2015 - 2017 as a representation of Youths in Solo to build their image through Insta Stories personal account. Through the existing features are: Photo, Video, Text, Boomerang, Live Streaming and Locations. This study refers to the build of self-image according to Ardianto and Soemirat which influenced by four components: perception, cognition, motivation and attitude. This study is a qualitative descriptive study, with collecting data by using deep interview technique, observation, and documentation. The determination of six informants was based on purposive sampling. The data analysis process used Interactive analysis model of Miles and Huberman, that consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study were: Instagram stories is one of media which can be used to build self-image by using the filters features to make pictures more attractive. For example is selecting the best picture, tagging location by tagging the current location. Furthermore the visible former of the informants was a change of attitude before and after joining the Gemeinschaft of Putra Putri Solo. All of informants changed their attitude by taking more attention and selecting appropriate and not appropriate pictures to upload in their instagram stories. Motivation to get profit and well-known also able to deliver information influenced the daily activity of informants to utilize Insta Stories. Keywords: New Media, Self-Imaging, Instagram, Stories.
