    Abstract

    Amelia Kristiani. K4313009. THE APPLICATION OF DISCOVERY MODEL WITH INSTRUCTION IN CONCLUSION STAGE TO IMPROVE THE ABILITY OF FINDING AND CONNECTING CONCEPT. Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty of the Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. Desember 2017. The research aimed to improve the students’ ability of finding and connecting concept through applying discovery model with instruction in conclusion stage. This study was a class action research conducted in 2 cycles. The procedure of research included planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of research was the senior high school students consisting of 12 boys and 25 girls. The primary data was the ability of finding and connecting concept measured using concept map score based on scoring expert concept map according to Novak & Gowin (1984), while secondary data included students’ answer and note. Techniques of collecting data used were test with concept map and non-test ones including observation, interview, and documentation. Data validation was carried out using method triangulation. Techniques of analyzing data used was descriptive qualitative one, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result of research showed the students’ improved ability of finding and connecting concept from precycle to cycle I and from cycle I to cycle II. The improvementof the students’ ability of finding and connecting concept was indicated with concept map including mean and score interval, while the number of students with score above the mean decreased in cycle I and constant in cycle II. The mean score of concept map was 5,09% in precycle, increasing to 16,55% in cycle I and 23,11% in cycle II. The score interval of concept map was 2,58%-7,22% in precycle, increasing to 7,00%-62,35% in cycle I, and 6,76%-46,76% in cycle II. The number of students having score above the mean was 20 students in precycle, decreasing to 7 students in cycle I, and to 7 students in cycle II, thus it could be concluded that the application of discovery model with instruction in conclusion stage could improve the students’ ability of finding and connecting concept.
