    Abstract

    The implementation of underwater welding is to repair the damage in underwater building structures and oil pipelines to extend the use of the facility. SMAW method was applied in the welding process. Water depth and electric current variations were used in underwater welding. To compare to underwater welding, ground welding was also carried out by using the same electrode, namely E7016. Non-destructive and destructive tests were used to obtain data. The results of non-destructive analysis show that there were many defects for all specimens because of the disturbing environment. The tensile strength value of underwater welding and ground welding joint was almost the same.The welding at 2.5 m water depth provided the highest results due to the lower water pressure which made the welding arc much more stable. The highest hardness value was obtained in welding at the water depth of 2.5 m in the HAZ. The highest toughness value was obtained in ground welding.
