    Abstract

    Siska Ernawati. K4311068. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GUIDED INQUIRY LEARNING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY OF SECOND GRADER AT SCIENCE 3 CLASS SMAN 6 SURAKARTA. Thesis, Surakarta: Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University, November 2017. This research aimed to improve students’ critical thinking ability of second grader at science 3 class SMAN 6 Surakarta through the implementation of guided inquiry learning. This research was a Classroom Action Research conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Subject of the research was the second grader at science 3 class SMAN 6 Surakarta academic year 2014/2015, consisting of 14 boys and 19 girls. Data collecting techniques used in this research were essay test, observation, and interview, which data validation using triangulation technique. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative technique. Spiral model were used for the research procedure. The result of the research showed that students’ critical thinking ability increase from Preaction, Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III. Interpretation aspect increase from 40,15% to 70,45%; analysis aspect increase from 34,85% to 71,21%; evaluation aspect increase from 25,00% to 66,67%; inference aspect increase from 47,73% to 79,55%; explanation aspect increase from 30,30% to 68,18%; dan self regulation aspect increase from 42,42% to 66,67%. Based on the data analysis result, it can be concluded that the implementation of guided inquiry learning is able to improve students’ critical thinking ability of second grader at science 3 class SMAN 6 Surakarta into critical category (61%).
